#NorthsideStory: Sophiegrophy

Born in Nigeria, raised in New Zealand, and now taking over Australia, Sophiegrophy made headlines in 2016 with her independent debut mixtape PURPULARITY. The mixtape impressed the WVS camp enough to sign her in 2017. Whether she’s delivering cut-throat 16’s or catchy, pop-inspired hooks, you can expect that Sophie will deliver nothing but quality.

When Sophie visited our Studio + Factory + Store in Brunswick East ahead of her gig at the Brunswick Music Festival, we took the opportunity to discuss everything from her passions to her perfect day, and of course all things music. Here’s what she had to say…

If you could pick just three words that describe you, what would they be?
Bubbly, loyal, energetic.

What are you most passionate about?
Music and having the right people around me.

Why is Melbourne home?
Melbourne is one of the most gorgeous cities with amazing people.  There’s so much to do in Melbourne.

What are your favourite Brunswick hangouts?
There are so many, it’s too hard to choose.

What is the best gig you’ve been to and why?
I have been to so many amazing gigs it’s too hard to pick.

What gigs will you be checking out at this year’s Brunswick Music Festival?
I will be trying my best to check out most acts at this year’s BMF because supporting one another is absolutely important.

What Denimsmith items will you be wearing at the Brunswick Music Festival?
The AVA Jacket and BANJI Jean, both in Dark Indigo.
(In our Factory Sophie wears our FREYA Jean and EILEEN Jacket, both in White.)

What does your perfect day entail?
Music, food and laughter.

What is your favourite saying, song, or motto in which you live by?
Continue being a good person even though this world is so cold and the people in it are so cruel.

As part of the Brunswick Music Festival, Sophiegrophy will be playing on Saturday 9th March.  To find out more and to purchase your tickets, visit Brunswick Music Festival.
