#NorthsideStory: Jo Lorenz

Jo Lorenz

From moderating Fashion Revolution events to co-founding Climate Briefings with her husband and recently launching Conscious Citizen, Creative Director and published author, Jo works with sustainability pioneers in the global fashion and lifestyle industries to promote artists, brands and designers who honour ethical, environmentally-friendly and sustainable trade.

After visiting our Studio + Factory + Store in Brunswick East while she was in Melbourne for VAMFF, we since caught up with Jo to discuss everything from her favourite Melbourne hangouts to her passions and style, here’s what she had to say…

If you could pick just three words that describe you, what would they be?

Conscious, committed and filled-with-coffee (conscientiously).

What are you most passionate about?

The health of our beautiful planet, my work and my incredibly rad little family.

What draws you to Melbourne?

While I am a Sydneysider who splits her time between Hong Kong and Sydney, I love Melbourne and I’m always delighted to be in town! Great food, lovely people, and consciously made clothes. Tick, tick, tick.

What are your favourite Melbourne hangouts?

Brunch at King & Godfree, sunset drinks on the rooftop at Siglo, dinner at Cumulus Inc and delicious cocktails at Eau de Vie. La dolce vita!

How would you describe your personal style?

One part masculine, two parts classic and eleven-teen parts invested in ethics and sustainability.

What is the one Denimsmith item you can’t live without and why?

I love love love my washed black OCTAVIA Jeans! Incredibly unique and delightfully flattering, I am literally living in them and my Veja sneakers right now. I also love my MARCELLA Jacket (in dark indigo), which is perfect over a plain racerback maxi dress and sandals. However, my absolute favourite aspect of each of my Denimsmith items, is how they are consciously made with longevity in mind :)

What does your perfect day entail?

This illustrious and sunny day begins with champagne and free-range eggs, toes in the sand of some exotic beach, with my dude-husband and children chit-chatting around me. Next stop is a natural body of water where, while flopping in and out of the salted water, I unexpectedly get incredibly toned and tanned throughout the day (bonus!). At sunset, the champagne resurfaces (second bottle, obvs), while I ponder whether to have the lobster or the lobster...

What is your favourite saying, song, or motto in which you live by?

“Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite . . . and furthermore always carry a small snake.” - W. C. Fields
