Stylist, Presenter, Actor and Designer, Kate Bollard may hail from the sleepy seaside town of Wollongong, but her fashion career bought her to Melbourne almost a decade ago and we're very happy to call her our own.IMG_2807-gridWe were delighted to have Kate visit our Studio + Factory + Store in Brunswick East last month and took the opportunity to discuss everything from her passions to her favourite Melbourne hangouts, here's what she had to say...

If you could pick just three words that describe you, what would they be?

Loyal, passionate and creative.

What are you most passionate about?

Where to start! I’m passionate about so many things - from the environment, equality, fair trade, women’s rights, fashion and interiors, to finding the best coffee in Melbourne :)

Why is Melbourne home?

Melbourne is one of my homes, it’s been my current home for the past 8 years. I was lucky enough to make the leap here with some awesome musicians and stayed. At first, I wasn’t sure I was going to stay, Melbourne took me a good 6 months to fall in love with it. She’s a pretty awesome city when you get to know her. I would take myself on city dates when I was adjusting - new cafes, galleries, suburbs, simply to explore all this city had to offer. On the way I found some amazing souls and Melbourne soon became home.Melbourne has so much to offer whether it's culturally, sports, events, live music, fashion, food… you can understand why it’s one of the most liveable cities in the world. Oh, and the Coffee!!! :)

So where is the best coffee in Melbourne?

Oh man, that's a hard one.  You can’t go past Brunetti’s, it’s iconic... but Melbourne has so many amazing cafes with great baristas that it’s too hard pick just one!

What are your favourite Melbourne hangouts?

I’m a brunch lover so I have my favourites… Tinker in Northcote, Clubhouse in Malvern, The Stables of Como in Toorak, just to name a few. A cheeky rooftop drink, Goldilocks in the city. But if you’re after a cute bar, hit up Trinket in the city. Dinner I love Chin Chin, Tonka and Fatto in the city.

How would you describe your personal style?

I’m a Chameleon, my style is forever changing. However, I love mixing luxury with basic and vintage. So, I love vintage/op shop shopping and giving life to items from the past.

What is the one Denimsmith item you can’t live without and why?

The BANJI jean in Bleached Indigo - I LOVE them! I feel like they are so me. I love the light wash and the wide leg, and they have a great vintage feel about them.

What does your perfect day entail?

Sun shining, getting a coffee from my local café, reading the paper, going for a stroll, enjoying some me time and taking the day as it comes.

What is your favourite saying, song, or motto in which you live by?

Everything happens for a reason, have faith and trust the universe. If it’s meant to be it will happen, so there is no point stressing about something you can’t control.... I should tell myself this more! IMG_0013-half
